I'm a big sports fan and I have my favorite teams and the teams that, let's just say I don't like, to be nice. Let's start at home - I
grew up in Evansville, Indiana so it may not surprise anyone that I am a basketball fan. A REAL basketball fan, that is, not that fake
stuff that some people call basketball - the NBA. Oh I used to like it before a bunch of thugs played it, when guys like Larry Bird, Oscar
Robertson, "Pistol" Pete Maravich, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc.
I'll start with Indiana University even though I did not go there but I have been a fan of IU basketball for longer. The Division II
school that I attended in Evansville is the University of Southern Indiana and they have a good basketball program. Bruce Pearl used to
coach at USI and he now coaches at Tennessee so I am a Tennessee fan as well.
In general I'm a fan of the midwest teams and seem to root against any west coast teams. I love college basketball and football and the
NFL would be a solid third, that is when it's not NASCAR season (and when isn't it NASCAR season???!!!). It may also be no surprise that
I'm an Indianapolis Colts fan. I grew up a Notre Dame football fan so even though I actually went to Florida State for a year and a half,
I will root for Notre Dame until they play Florida State.
I'm not one of those guys that hates a team because of their success (i.e. I don't hate Notre Dame or the Yankees or Duke just because
they are all successful). But I do have my dislikes based on, admittedly, some pretty petty things. But hey, it keeps things
interesting. Here are some teams I don't like and the reasons why:
Some of my interests include computers, drum and bugle corps, and most all
sports. From 1991 to 1993, I was a member of the
Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle
Corps from Bloomington, IN. The corps placed in the top 10 in the world
every year since its inception in 1985, placing 3rd in 1990 and 1993, 2nd in
1992, and was crowned Drum Corps International
World Champions in 1991.
I enjoy exercising of most all forms. My favorite activities are biking,
hiking, walking, and Ultimate Frisbee. More information on Ultimate
Frisbee can be found at the Ultimate Players
Association website in the
About Ultimate section, in the
Chicago Ultimate web page or the
Chicago Ultimate Summer League web page. I really enjoy cycling medium
to long distances and running in short recreational runs such as 5K
charity events. A few of these events I have participated in are the Elvis
is Alive and Running 5K, Race to Taste (of Chicago) 5K, Chase Corporate
Challenge 3.5 mile run and the Boulevard Lakefront Tour bicycle ride.
Some of my friends' web pages: coming soon.
Since I'm from Indiana, it may be obvious that I am a basketball fan. From
the Fall of 1990 to the Fall of 1994, I attended the
University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, IN. While I attended
USI, the men's basketball program won the Division II National
Championship in 1995 and was runner-up in 1994. I participated in the
basketball band for my entire stint at USI.
As mentioned earlier, my bachelor's degree from
Florida State University is in Meteorology. Before the National
Weather Service Office in Evansville was shutdown early in 1996, I created
an unofficial homepage for the office. After it shutdown, I decided to
create a weather page where the citizens of Evansville and the
surrounding area could get reliable weather information quickly and
easily. Since then, I have created weather pages for the places I
have lived. I don't maintain it much anymore, but Jeff's Chicago Weather
Page still exists. I have also made a web page for my new place of
residence - the Fort Worth-Dallas area. Please visit Jeff's Fort Worth/Dallas Weather
Page often and let me know what you think. Some of the information on
it is for Meteorology types only, but most of it is understandable to the
average person.
